We are Levi and Jessie Benkert, and even though it still sounds crazy to us every time we say it, we live in Ethiopia with our four children.  I am still not sure what part is more unbelievable, the fact that we have four children or that we live in Ethiopia.  We live here to work with children who have been orphaned and have no families to care for them, and we have been here for the past 2 years, in which time we were heading up Drawn From Water, an orphanage and child rescue project in the South of Ethiopia.  Today we are working on the details of a new project right now and even though its all still early on in the project, we are excited to be able to live here and work on our passion which is caring for children who have no one else in their lives. Be sure to check out the project section of this site for more specifics on the orphanage project.

This blog is about our journey here in Ethiopia through the eyes of Levi, its the day to day, moment to moment, nitty gritty of raising a family in a developing country and all that goes along with it, including the good, bad, and just plain disgusting.

As you can likely tell from looking around, this blog is new, its still forming and we are figuring out just how we want it all to look and feel, so don’t be surprised if you come back and find that it looks different, or the colors have changed. But one thing you can be sure of is our unending passion for orphan care, we are thankful and excited that you are coming along with us for the ride and eager to share it with you.

So sad to see Drawn from Water close, but excited to see what’s next for your family!:) We are in process to adopt from ET and can’t wait to meet our little one, and hopefully see more of what the Lord is doing there in Ethiopia!:)
